Transitional Curriculum 2023-24 Report

Introduction:

Ancient texts, notably Sage Sushrut's compendium, highlight the significance of the Shisyopanayaneey Sanskar, an Orientation and Induction ritual ceremony, as an induction program for newly admitted disciples. This program serves as a foundation before commencing formal studies, focusing on the ethics of the medical profession, Gurukul rules, the pursuit of education, and the character of good physicians.


Implementation of Transitional Curriculum

As per NCISM guidelines, the Transitional Curriculum for 1st Professional BAMS students at RK University Ayurvedic College and Hospital, Rajkot, was successfully conducted from 1st November, 2023. The program included various activities such as guest lectures, Vadatu Sanskritam sessions, motivational speeches, and more.


Objectives of Transitional Curriculum

  1. Orientation of the college/institutional campus and available facilities.
  2. Introduction of officials, hierarchy, and their roles.
  3. Orientation to office procedures, campus rules and regulations, code of conduct, dress codes, leave procedures, library facility access, anti-ragging committee & squad, safety apps, etc.
  4. Introduction to various medical systems, the scope of Ayurveda nationally and internationally, higher education in Ayurveda, job opportunities, entrepreneurship, etc.
  5. Overview of the BAMS curriculum and its subjects.
  6. Orientation of regulatory and governing bodies, including an introduction to their heads.
  7. Sanskrit language orientation and spoken Sanskrit.
  8. Goal setting.
  9. Basic Life Support (BSL) training.
  10. Orientation of basic computer skills.
  11. Personality development, team building, gender sensitization, etc.

Transitional Curriculum Outcomes
  1. Familiarity with the campus, infrastructure, facilities, officials, and their roles.
  2. Understanding and familiarity with the rules, regulations, and procedures of the college.
  3. Understanding of the code of conduct and campus behavior.
  4. Understanding the scope of Ayurveda and available opportunities.
  5. Familiarity with the BAMS curriculum and its subjects.
  6. Acquaintance with regulatory/governing bodies.
  7. Capability to perform Basic Life Support (BSL).
  8. Acquisition of basic computer skills.
  9. Improvement in communication and conversation skills in Sanskrit.
  10. Development of leadership qualities.
  11. The ability to set goals.

Conclusion

In summary, the successful execution of the Transitional Curriculum has equipped the 1st Professional BAMS students with a comprehensive understanding of the institution, its regulations, the Ayurvedic profession, and essential life skills, fostering a holistic development that aligns with the goals of the curriculum.
