Educational Visit to Forensic Science Laboratory

An educational visit was organized for second-year BAMS students to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Rajkot on 28 November 2024. The primary objective of this visit was to expose students to the practical applications of forensic science

During the visit, total 56 students were had the opportunity to explore four key departments of the FSL:

Physical Department:

  • Learned about the analysis of physical evidence such as weapons, tools, and materials related to crime scenes.
  • Observed techniques used to identify and compare physical evidence.

Toxicology Department:

  • Observed the analysis of biological samples to detect the presence of drugs, poisons, or other toxic substances.
  • Gained an understanding of the role of toxicology in forensic investigations.

Fingerprint Department:

  • Learned about the principles of fingerprint analysis, including the unique patterns and characteristics of fingerprints
  • Observed the process of fingerprint collection, preservation, and analysis.
  • Gained insights into the use of fingerprint evidence in criminal investigations.

Biology Department:

  • Learned about the collection, preservation, and analysis of biological evidence, such as DNA, blood, and hair.
  • Observed techniques used in DNA profiling and other biological tests.
  • Gained an understanding of the role of biology in forensic investigations.

This visit was led by Dr Shivangi Malavia, Dr Jigar Vekariya, Dr Swati Gavadiya under the guidance & support of our Director Dr Manoj Pande.

The educational visit provided students with a unique opportunity to witness the practical applications of forensic science. The visit enhanced their understanding of the scientific principles underlying forensic investigations particularly in areas such as toxicology and forensic medicine.
