On 24th June 2026, the Department of Agadtantra organized an enriching educational visit for second-year BAMS students to the Regional Forensic Laboratory, Rajkot. The visit aimed to provide students with practical exposure to the diverse divisions of forensic science, thereby strengthening their understanding of medico-legal applications and bridging classroom learning with real-world practices.

Students explored following divisions:

• The DNA Division introduced them to advanced techniques of genetic profiling, which are crucial in identifying individuals, solving criminal cases, and establishing biological relationships.
• In the Biology Division, they observed how biological evidence such as blood, hair, and tissue samples are analyzed to link suspects to crime scenes.
• The Serology Division focused on the detection and examination of bodily fluids, helping students understand how blood group analysis and other serological tests contribute to forensic investigations.
• The Toxicology Division demonstrated methods of detecting and analyzing poisons, drugs, and other toxic substances, emphasizing their medico-legal importance in cases of poisoning and substance abuse.
• The Physics Division showcased the examination of physical evidence such as ballistics, glass fragments, and tool marks, which are vital in reconstructing crime scenarios.
• In the Chemistry Division, students learned about chemical analysis of unknown substances, explosives, and narcotics, highlighting the precision required in forensic chemical testing.
• The Handwriting Division provided insights into document examination, including handwriting verification, signature analysis, and detection of forgery.
• Finally, the Fingerprint Division demonstrated the uniqueness of fingerprints and their role as one of the most reliable methods of personal identification in criminal investigations.

This comprehensive exposure allowed students to appreciate the multidisciplinary nature of forensic science and its indispensable role in medico-legal practice. Observing the systematic approach of forensic experts reinforced the importance of accuracy, documentation, and ethical conduct in handling evidence.

The visit was coordinated by Dr. Pankaj Bhange and Dr. Shivangi Malaviya, with constant support and guidance of our Director, Dr. Manoj Pande.

Overall, the visit to the Regional Forensic Laboratory was a significant milestone in orienting students toward medico-legal sciences.
